T for Transportation
We talked about the letter "T" today, specifically focusing on TRANSPORTATION
We had fun playing "Red Light, Green Light" and learning what RED, YELLOW & GREEN mean on the Traffic Lights. Next time you are stopped at a Traffic Light, ask your child if they remember what each color means!
We had fun making STOP SIGNS with GO SIGNS on the back, so the children could play "Red Light, Green Light" at home!
During free play we had fun with TRAINS & CARS!
We also watched part of a THOMAS THE TRAIN episode while we ate snack:)
Here is a fun TRANSPORTATION song you can sing with your child:
DOWN BY THE STATION
Tune: “Down By The Station”
Down by the station
Early in the morning.
See the little puffers
Standing in a row.
See the station master
Turn a little handle.
Chug, chug, chug, chug,
Off they go!

We also talked about the letter "R"{for Rainbow} today & the sound it makes.
At home Activity idea:

Healthy Bodies
We talked about exercises we can do with our body to help us stay healthy & STRONG!
We made Banana Muffins as a class today & everyone was able to help put in ingredients or mix the batter...
Then we talked about some HEALTHY things we can eat & I searched my fridge for some fruits & vegetables and found broccoli, carrots & an apple...
Here is the recipe, if any of you would like to try these "Healthier Banana Muffins" at home:
3 ripe bananas (2 large or 3 small)
1 egg
1/3 cup of vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups of flour
1 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking powder
***for the HEALTHIER version...substitute the 1/3 cup of veg oil for 1/3 cup of APPLESAUCE
& then throw in a 1/2-1 CUP of MIXED VEGGIES/FRUITS-ground up very fine
Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes, until edges are brown
&
ENJOY!
You can "hide" vegetables in many recipes, without changing the flavor...just the nutrition factor.
Try grinding up spinach & adding to your favorite fruit smoothie.
Or add ground broccoli to your morning omelets.
Next time you make cupcakes for an afternoon snack, grind up vegetables or fruit in the batter & they will gobble them right up, without knowing the difference:)
Try adding a serving of vegetables to a regularly planned meal this week!
See if your kids notice the HEALTHIER version you have put on their plates...good luck!

Health & Hygiene
Construction toys have long been said to help improve fine motor skills in children, so if you sit your little ones love Legos, let them enjoy them!
Today we talked about the letter "H"
Our unit this week is focused on HEALTH & HYGIENE
We talked about brushing our teeth & washing our hands and what happens when we don't do those things. Then we had an activity to help the children understand WHAT they are doing when they brush their teeth.
We drew a big tooth on the whiteboard & each child took a turn BRUSHING off the "DIRT" on the tooth, making it clean & white!
we added in some musical instruments today & they loved singing time today!
They each got to take home their very own Clifford Toothbrush & Toothpaste...hopefully they will ENJOY brushing their teeth tonight!:)
